The Best Omega3 Foods Revealed

We have been told for ages now to eat more omega3 foods to stay healthy, but which are the best foods to get it from, and which single source has the highest amount?

The main problem is that most of us are deficient in these vital fatty acids, with recent studies finding that at least 85% of us need more! This is because our bodies cannot make omega3 so it must come from our diet.

Omega3 foods that are good can be leafy greens like spinach and kale, flaxseed, strawberries, walnut and almonds from vegetable sources. Most good quality meat will contain some omega3 like beef and chicken.

However in order to get the most benefits like prevention of heart attacks, lower cholesterol and blood pressure and improved brain health and mental well-being we need to look at oily fish. Salmon, herring and mackerel are all good but the very best one is Hoki from the Southern Ocean of New Zealand.

Let me explain why.

The two main fatty acids are DHA and EPA, with DHA being responsible for most of the benefits, especially brain and heart health. Hoki is the best of the omega3 foods as it contains high levels of DHA and very little contamination. The problem is that we are advised to only eat one portion of oily fish a week due to our polluted oceans so the very best source is a fish oil supplement from Hoki.

A third omega3 fatty acid called ALA can be had from flaxseed oil and other non meat sources but is nowhere near as beneficial as the body must convert it to DHA and this process doesn't always happen.

When selecting fish oil, ensure it has been molecularly distilled to remove all the toxins like mercury and lead, to leave only pure concentrated oil, still in its natural state to be easily absorbed by the body, making it the best option of the omega3 foods.

With one of the world's foremost health experts saying that consuming more DHA omega3 fats is probably the single most important dietary change that most people could ever make to improve their health, you know how important they truly are.

Look for a supplement high in DHA, at least 250mg per capsule to get the maximum benefits. Most on the market have higher EPA levels so check the individual levels carefully.

So in closing hope this article on omega3 foods will help to point you in the right direction when looking for the best possible source to keep you in excellent health now and in the future.
