3 More Alarming Food Combinations You Should Avoid

In one of my previous write-ups, it was stressed that proper food combining is necessary for an individual who is suffering from GERD, acid reflux or any other digestive disorders due to the unhealthy mix of acid and alkaline enzymes in one's body, specifically one's stomach. A list of three common and unhealthy food combinations was brought up to encourage people to consider their diet and make the positive changes that will in turn have a better impact on their health.

There are three more unhealthy and alarming food combinations that you should avoid, which basically follows the same principles of food combining: Never combine concentrated proteins with starches. You can have either one as long as it is eaten by itself, or along with fresh high water-content vegetables that are "neutral", meaning they do not need that much acid (if any at all) to digest.

1. Steak and Baked Potato -- If you're a steak lover who likes to eat one's meal along with a baked potato, then you're just asking for stomach trouble. Remember that when an acid and alkaline mix together, they neutralize each other. This causes your stomach to slow up in its digestion, and for some people, bringing it into a temporary halt. This is not to discourage you from eating steak... you can have all the servings of steak you want (in a figurative way) as long as you combine it with let's say a salad with non-starchy vegetables.

2. Rice and Chicken -- Again, this one has been a favorite of many not to avoid, but rather to indulge. Rice combined with chicken, whether fried or roasted, will result in a digestive stalemate in your stomach. Have your rice instead with vegetables and potatoes, or eat your favorite chicken with a non-starchy salad. This small changes will most definitely go a long way.

3. Turkey and Stuffing -- Usually this delectable treat is served in Thanksgiving and in most special occasions. Turkey alone is no problem for your digestive system to handle. But eating it with all that stuffing, which is mostly made up of starch, is just not a good idea. Now that you know a good number of these unhealthy and common food combinations, you can take the necessary steps to naturally cure your GERD, acid reflux, or any digestive problem you have, by changing your dietary habits and focusing in good nutrition. The choice however, remains yours.
Digestive disorders can GREATLY reduce the quality of your life.
