Nutrition Bars - Are They Really Healthy?

Chemicals, sugars, processed fats and other harmful additives all cover the label of nutrition bars. Are they really nutritional at all? Or do they fall into the same pharmaceutical scams like so many other 'claimed' health foods that help you lose weight or gain muscle?

With numerous varieties of protein bars and health bars found in more than just health stores, how can you be sure they're actually beneficial to your health?

The only way you'll have a chance at understanding what is healthy/good for you is understanding what is written on the labels if you ever want to find a worthwhile bar.

Speaking truthfully, most protein and health bars are total crap. Just simple sugar and candy bars covered with labelling seeming scientific and healthy as its marketing scam.

Fitness guru Mike Geary gives a great example of how he was biking with his friend who gave him a slim fast bar - a 'certified' health food for losing weight. He goes on to explain how you don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out these bars are complete jokes, and even worse than candy bars!

Corn syrup of all things is the first ingredient, which I have explained in my last article how bad that is for you. The second ingredient is sugar, and the third is hydrogenated oils which is a source of extremely unhealthy trans fats. The top three ingredients are followed by nothing but artificial colors and flavours, sweeteners, oils, and the highly recommended 'soy protein' which isn't even healthy for you if it is processed! So much for a healthy snack bar I guess...

Now we've come to the conclusion that these bars aren't healthy for you (yes, we are only looking at one example but MOST of health bars fall into this category, although not all) I want to elaborate on the taste of these bars. I haven't tasted one energy, protein, or so called health bar that stands out in my mind as tasting 'healthy'. That taste you get that sort of makes you cringe is literally because of what you're eating. Crap! It is the chemicals and all the additives that are processed in the bars themselves.

So how do you determine a healthy protein bar or energy bar?

Simple. That's really all there is to it. You'll notice the things that are healthy in a good bar. Nuts, seeds, fruits, sesame and other common good qualities of food. Organic and ingredients that are unprocessed are extremely healthy for you as well.

Here are a few bars that are actually healthy:

1. Larabars - These health bars are extremely simple. No cluttered labels with confusing ingredients and unhealthy additives. Most of the time just 3 ingredients or so that are raw, blended with fruits and a assortment of nuts that vary with different arrangements. Simple, healthy, and tasteful!

Larabars are tasty and will NOT have a label stuffed with additives and chemicals, just simple raw healthy ingredients. A quality bar for a quality diet - hard to find at local food stores, you'll have to browse your local health food stores.

2. Organic Food Bars - This is the actual brand name of the bar.

Based around organic seeds, fruit, biosprouts and rice protein - these bars are as healthy as they come. They are formed from exclusively raw ingredients.

Not only are these bars extremely nutritious, but I think they are delicious as well and have a lot of flavours to choose from such as chocolate chip, blueberry, cranberry, high protein, and more.

I have bought some of these bars at my local chiropractor health clinic and they do wonders to your body. You will look at health in a whole new way. You will feel what it is like to actually have a healthy energy/health bar that satisfies your appetite and rejuvenates your mind and body. A fulfilling snack with flavours like chocolate chip, blueberry, high protein, cranberry and others.

You won't find these bars at your local grocery store, but I have found them at several health food stores.

Both of these bars are great to carry on you for quick fix snacks that will truly help your body perform at its full potential. Pack them in your lunch or on a coffee break, you will notice the difference!
