Carrots Are the Richest Food Source of Beta Carotene and Then Some!

One of the best vitamins provided to us in carrots is beta carotene in the form of Vitamin A. Vitamin A does a lot for us, and in fact, is essential to health. Carrots provide at least 50 percent of our daily needed allowance for the A vitamin. What all does vitamin A do? Well, let's take a look at some of the ways vitamin A helps our health:

1. Vitamin A provides immune system protection in many ways. People that are always seeming to get colds or flu should increase their A vitamins, (by eating 1 cup of natural carrots).

2. Your eyes are made healthier by getting enough of Vitamin A. This is due to the fact that the vitamin in fact, will play a role in how your eyes react to light and dark.

3. Vitamin A is good for heart health and artherosclerosis, (clogging of arteries). If people that are at risk for artery disease, or already have it would add a cup of carrots to their daily diet, it would likely improve this condition. People at risk for artherosclerosis are those that have certain types of heart problems, hypertension, diabetes, and not to mention, high cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

Carrots also provide other nutritional value besides Vitamin A. Another one of these phytonutrients is known as Falcarinol. Falcarinol has been known to help reduce the rates of various cancer types such as colon cancer and certain types of breast cancers.

One other nutrient in the carrot is fiber. Carrots contain around 4 grams of fiber per cup. Fiber is essential to our diets for roughage and helps regulate the gastrointestinal tract.

Vitamin C is another vitamin contained in carrots that provides us with around 11 mg daily. Vitamin C is another vitamin that is essential to our health in that it helps us fight viruses due to free radicals attacking the immune system. Vitamin C also helps the bones too since it plays a role in helping your collagen production.

And the final thing here, is that your one cup of natural carrots will provide you with a lot of your Vitamin K allowance daily. Vitamin K helps the bones and bone problems, due to the fact that it stimulates the calcium in the body to work more. The vitamin also helps your blood to clot in the right ways.

So the next time you eat fresh carrots or freshly cooked carrots, think of all these valuable nutrients and the optimal health you can achieve.
