How to Increase Your Height by Eating Healthy

Your height is largely a function of your genetics, exercise, and diet.

Diet is the reason why the average height of people in China and India has increase by almost 4-5 inches. Environmental and exercise factors, in these cases, haven't changed much. What has changed is the availability of nutritious food for large sections of the population, that has led to a tremendous growth spurt. The average height of a South Korean male, for instance is 5'8.5", as compared to that of an American at 5.'9" - not much of a difference for a nation traditionally considered short.

So what kind of diet is helpful in helping you achieve your height increase goals?

In general, a diet rich in minerals, vitamins and proteins will provide all the raw ingredients required for growth and also stimulate the release of the growth hormone.

Of the minerals, calcium and phosphorus are essential elements as they are crucial to bone-building. You can get these minerals through dairy products like milk and cheese. Calcium supplements are easily available and are very effective in satiating the body's need for calcium.

For vitamins, it is essential to eat lots of green vegetables and fruits. Vegetables like spinach, broccoli are rich in various vitamins, while fruits like apples, oranges provide a ready source of both vitamins and several important minerals. Taking vitamins in the form of multivitamin tablets is also an effective way of fulfilling the body's vitamin needs.

Proteins are found mostly in both white and red meats. Because of its high fat and cholesterol content, red meat like beef and lamb is not recommended. Turkey, chicken, and fish, on the other hand, are excellent sources of protein.
If you're vegetarian, your options for getting protein are fairly limited. You can consume dairy products like milk and cottage cheese. Proteins are also found in most legumes.

Another way of supplementing protein in your diet is through protein supplements. These are usually whey extracts (a by product of cheese production) and are rich in various amino acids (the building blocks of proteins). These are a safe and easy way to get the adequate protein in your diet.
